What is QBCC?

Have you ever heard of QBCC? Perhaps you’ve seen it written on a quote and wondered what it was?

QBCC is the Queensland Building and Construction Commission and it’s their mission to improve standards, equity and confidence in the building industry with the Queensland home warranty scheme.

What does it mean for homeowners?

In short, it means that if you’re renovating, extending, building from the ground up or getting a metal roof replacement, someone has your back! Not only does the QBCC mandate that contractors be sufficiently qualified and licensed to carry out work on your home, they also offer dispute prevention and resolution services in the event that there is disagreement between you and the contractor regarding the satisfactory completion of the job.

Check it's included in your quote

It’s also a requirement for roofing companies to take out QBCC Home Warranty Insurance on the homeowner’s behalf for all work valued at or above $3300 (inc. GST). If this isn’t clearly itemised on your quote, it might be worth double-checking that it has indeed been included and you have the cover that you’re obliged to.

Perform a QBCC license check

Another handy tip that Luke recommends is to do a quick online license search to check the contractors history and ensure they’re doing the right thing by their customers. You can download and refer to the E-book below for instructions on how to search – but it’s quite simple, just follow the prompts on screen! The majority of contractors out there are doing doing the right thing, but there's nothing like peace of mind when dealing with your most valuable assets!
